This blog has been created for members of the public who have been the recipient of unfair and unjust rulings by Judge Patrick M. Pekin. We want everyone to know what makes this man a bad judge. Please write and let us know how he screwed you over. We're sure there are many of you out there. I, personally, have been the recipient of his unfair decisions that have costed me money when I deserved justice.

Judge Pekin appears to be a very arrogant man. When you try to present your case, he cuts you off and interrupts you if it seems like you will be making a point that helps you. He acts like he is always right. Even though he couldn't be further from the truth. He made decent rulings when he first became judge, but not anymore. He lacks humility and empathy, qualities that a good judge needs.

Mr. Pekin has a prior history in San Benito County. A search in court records located case number H031238, Mendiola v. Pekin, Court of Appeal of California, Sixth Appellate District where an appellate court reviewed an anti-SLAPP ruling involving Patrick Michael Pekin. The plaintiff sued for defamation and other torts based on statements and litigation-related conduct. The trial court struck most claims under anti-SLAPP, and the appellate court largely affirmed. However, the appellate court reversed as to one claim, allowing an invasion of privacy claim based on alleged acquisition of bank records to proceed. Voters may reasonably consider what this litigation history suggests about temperament, judgment, and respect for privacy.

True judicial capability is demonstrated through daily courtroom conduct, fairness, and respect for all individuals—qualities Judge Pekin frequently fails to display. My direct experiences in Judge Pekin’s courtroom have been deeply concerning. Rather than upholding the principles of unbiased justice, he routinely treats defendants, particularly those who are low-income or self-represented, with a distinct lack of dignity and respect. His rulings often appear driven by personal assumptions rather than a careful review of the submitted evidence. Furthermore, when clear errors are made, he demonstrates an adamant opposition to correcting them. Voters should look past institutional endorsements that are often driven by professional networks rather than firsthand observation.
Pekin has never been elected. He ran unopposed last election. After his performance, he is now opposed. In stark contrast to the incumbent, Colby Friend represents the temperament and dedication our community deserves. Having worked closely with Mr. Friend on highly complex legal matters, I know him to be exceptionally patient, responsive, and genuinely invested in the well-being of local residents. He understands the real challenges facing the people of this county. We need a judge who rules with humility, diligence, and equal respect for every citizen, regardless of their financial status. I urge voters to look closely at the reality of our current courtroom climate and cast their vote for Colby Friend on June 2.

I am calling the feds on his most recent ignoring of crimes committed by attorneys, he has a judicial duty and he failed miserably.
